So, today, I searched for some real estate topic, specifically the criteria/requirements that are required for tall residential towers. Apart from the usual problems of proximity to air port/some thing on forest or ndz/whatever I found that the most important thing is the seismic zones in the country.
India is divided into five seismic zones: Zone 1 to 5. You can get more information on this from the wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquake_zones_of_India and a very informative blog on such topics: http://geologicallyvulnerableplacesindia.blogspot.in/2013/07/earthquake-hazard-zones-of-india_30.html
I am showing the picture from the http://geologicallyvulnerableplacesindia.blogspot.in/ blog:
I was not able to get the exact figures on how many floors can a residential building can have in each Zone. But, there are >30 floor towers presently operating in Mumbai, which according to the above picture falls in Zone 3. So, just speculating here, I guess no more than 30 floors can be built in Zone 4, maybe ~18-24, and in Zone 5, maybe not more than 10 or 12 floors.
If you live in Zone 1, you are safe from these figures.
Suppose, you live in Zone 3/4 and your building is old and going into redevelopment. And suppose, the building is already 6-8 floors high, then you know that the new building will probably be the last raise it will get.
